Exercises for your baby are an important part for their development and growth. It helps strengthening their neck, shoulders and most importantly helps them learn to walk. You can become your baby’s personal trainer by following these exercises mentioned below!
Tummy time by turning your baby over onto the stomach helps to strengthen and build the muscles of back, neck, shoulders and stomach. Even if the tummy time is on your belly, it still counts! But as soon as your baby becomes comfortable laying on the floor, spread some toys around for more movements and for distraction from tummy time.
Sit up exercise is another good way of strengthening your baby’s back and abdominal muscles. You can start this exercise when your baby turns 6 weeks old and if your baby is too young to support their head, then gently place your hands behind their shoulders instead of the forearms to lift them up slowly in a sitting position. It will align your baby’s head and build balance as well.
Hand exercise is essential before the baby starts to crawl. Hand exercises can improve the ability of grasping different objects. Stretching of arms and fingers is also important for muscle growth.
Bicycling legs of your baby can release the trapped gases causing them pain. When your baby is lying on their back, take both of their legs in your hands and move them in circular motion. It also helps to increase the flexibility!
Sitting on a stool is an exercise to bring balance so that they can stand on their feet and walk or sit in the right position without falling. Make sure that you or any other adult is around the baby for safety purposes.
Cruising can be done by helping your baby hold the furniture and move around the house. It would increase their legs movement and the baby will have confidence to move.
You can help your child in achieving certain physical milestones by incorporating exercises developed by therapists or which are practiced worldwide, but also remember that all babies grow and develop according to their own pace at different ages.
